Plus-size model Robyn Lawley reveals the one question which turned her to a vegan diet: ‘I realised my stupidity’
Robyn Lawley revealed on Friday the one question her sister asked which prompted her into considering a vegan diet.
Writing an opinion piece for Nine Honey, the plus-size supermodel, 33, said one of her two sisters asked if she would ever eat ‘lab-grown’ meat.
The brunette beauty said she would so long as the animal wasn’t injured during the process, leading her to realise the hypocrisy of her answer.

‘When I first heard her question I wanted to be honest, because this was my sister. However, I truly didn’t know what to say. My first thought was, “Why not?”‘
‘So I turned to my sister and said, “Sure, if the animal doesn’t get hurt”. However, it technically does, limiting vegans to not eating cultivated meat.
‘She seemed satisfied with the answer and kept reading the paper. I thought about it some more. I then realised my stupidity.’

Lawley went on to say she later had to retract her answer after officially going vegan due to the negative health affects she had suffered from meat.
In her mid-20s, the New South Wales-born runway star developed lupus and Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), an autoimmune disease.
After speaking with her doctor, Lawley transitioned to a vegan diet which included ‘giant green smoothies filled with omega 3’ to alleviate her symptoms.

‘I suddenly had to retract my answer, and say, “No, I don’t think I could, because I don’t want lupus and the inflammatory effects that meat and dairy cause on my body.”‘
Lab-grown meat, also known as cultured meat, is commonly considered a more ethical and cruelty-free alternative to current meat production.
However, while the process requires less animals than livestock farming, they are still required to be reared for the sole purpose of harvesting cells for meat production.
